Scribe Post #3

Well since there looks like there has been a slump in the scribing over the last couple of days I think this is a good time to finish up my last scribe post.

Today in class we started off by getting back our Circular Motion & Work and Energy tests. We then went over the answers with Mrs. K and made sure we had the correct answers.

We then moved onto watching a video. The name of it was "Kepler's Three Laws." After watching that and answering the question sheet, we went over the correct answers for that.

"Kepler's Three Laws."

1. Each planets path is an ellipse and each planet moves around the sun which is called the focus.

2. The imaginary line from the sun to a planet sweaps out equal areas in equal time intervals. Planets move faster when closer to the sun and slower when farthest from the sun.

3. The ratio of the squares of the periods of any two planets revolving about the sun is equal to the ratio of the cubes of their average distances from the sun.

The video took the greater part of the class and we were left with about 20 minutes to finish up Study Guide 8. Also those who missed the lab yesterday were given time to finish that up.

Thursday April 10, 2008 (Scribe 2)

Hey everyone it's me Robert again. Well today in Physics class we started off by correcting and going over the Chapter 10 Study Guide for 10.1 Work and Energy.

Two things to note from the study guide:
  • Work = (Force)(Distance)
  • Power = (Work)/(Time)

Next we moved onto our lab that Mrs. K had ready for us. The objective of the lab was to see how much work and power a person could create walking up a flight of stairs. Once we did that we filled out the analysis and application part of the lab and handed it in.

Also Mrs. K assigned some work (at the same time as the lab) to do in the duck book.

  • Duck Book : Read p. 325 - 330 & Do Problems 1 - 6 on p. 330

Scribe Post For Monday March 3, 2008

Hey everyone it's Robert here and I'm picking up some slack for Monday's scribe post.

On Monday we came into class with a nice start to the week. We got to watch a movie on momentum. We were instructed by Mrs. K to take down 5 points that we learned during the movie. These are the ones that i took down just in case someone missed out:

- the higher the mass of an object moving at the same speed, the more momentum

- momentum=m*v

- a = F/m a=chg in v/t
F t = chg in (m*v)
F t = delta m*v
impulse = delta momentum

- doubling the time of the force, doubles the momentum

- you can change the momentum of an object with an impulse (big force, small time) or (smaller force, longer time)

- short time to stop object means larger force

- Big time to stop object means smaller force
